The Credit Union awarded $200,000 in education grants in August to 226 students pursuing post-secondary education. The assistance was given through the Rupert McCoy Memorial Education Grant programme.

“The successful recipients are working towards obtaining their tertiary degrees, A-Levels, certifications and technical vocational studies locally, online and overseas. Grant recipients are selected based on a variety of criteria including but not limited to their academic record, references and area of study,” according to an email from the Cayman Islands Civil Service Association Co-operative Credit Union.

Since 1994, the annual grant programme has awarded more than $2.2 million. In 2019, $200,000 in grants were given to 163 students.

“The Rupert McCoy Memorial Education Grant programme is not a scholarship, funds are issued once a year and can be applied to the recipients’ tuition, books, housing or other education related expenses,” according to the email.
