Minister for Education Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly embarked on a three-day ministerial tour of some government schools on Grand Cayman on May 12, 13, and 19.
Chief Officer Ms. Cetonya Cacho, Deputy Chief Officer Mrs. Lyneth Monteith, Department of Education Services (DES) Acting Director Mrs. Tammy Hopkins (day three), DES Head of Business Services Mr. Mark Ray, DES Facilities Manager Mr. Alan Robinson and Senior School Improvement Officers Messrs. Ian O’Connor, Elroy Bryan and Nicholas Obie accompanied the Minister.
On the initial day of the tour (12 May), Parliamentary Secretary Hon. Katherine Ebanks-Wilks joined the team as they visited Sir John A Cumber Primary School (SJACPS), George Town Primary School (GTPS), John Gray High School (JGHS) and Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC).
On the following day (13 May), the team journeyed to Joanna Clarke Primary School (JCPS), where they were joined by Ms. Heather Bodden, MP. The group also toured the Red Bay Primary School (RBPS) and Lighthouse School (LHS).
The team visited Edna Moyle Primary School (EMPS), Theoline L. McCoy Primary School (TMPS), Prospect Primary School (PPS) and Clifton Hunter High School (CHHS) on day three (19 May). At CHHS, they were joined by Deputy Premier Hon. Chris Saunders and Mr. Jay Ebanks, MP. The group was also joined by Health and Wellness Minister Hon. Sabrina Turner on their visit to Prospect Primary School.
At each location, the team conducted a walkthrough of the school compound before meeting with the Principal and members of the Senior Management Team to discuss the school’s key priorities, successes, resourcing needs, ongoing issues or concerns and their recommended solutions.
At the end of the final visit, Minister O’Connor-Connolly stated, “I am satisfied with the continued progress within our schools. I am also pleased that we can further pursue the implementation of those policies and plans crucial to the development of our education system. I am confident that with the help of my hardworking team and my Parliamentary and Cabinet colleagues, we will be able to provide our schools with the necessary support to ensure that our children have the best educational opportunities.”
