The following is a press release from the Ministry of Education:
Sixteen local students have been included on the Caribbean Secondary Education Council (CSEC) merit list for their exemplary performance in four subjects in the 2020 examinations.
Minister for Education Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly congratulated the students on their remarkable accomplishment.
“I extend well-deserved congratulations to each 2020 regional merit scholar. Through your diligence and focus, you have demonstrated your capacity to excel. I urge you all to continue to make the people of the Cayman Islands proud by striving for excellence in all your endeavours,” Minister O’ Connor-Connolly remarked.
Chief Officer Ms. Cetonya Cacho also congratulated the students, adding, “Our children’s success in the 2020 CSEC examination could not have been possible without parental support and the hard work and steadfast commitment of our educators.”
Among those listed were 14 students from the Clifton Hunter High School, 13 of whom sat the Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM) examination and one student who sat the Physics exam.
CHHS Principal Dr. Richard Wildman expressed his pride at the students’ achievement.
“We are proud of our students and their outstanding achievement. Our well-skilled teachers in the EDPM and Science subjects have worked tirelessly to prepare each of them. Their accomplishments in making the CSEC Regional Merit Lists exemplifies Clifton Hunter’s ‘Nothing but the Best’,” commented Dr. Wildman.
Two students, from the John Gray High School, were also among the region’s top ten highest scorers in Office Administration and Principle of Business (POB).
JGHS Principal, Mr. Jon Clark, was equally proud of his students and had this to say. “We are so proud of Kalia and Aria. They have set the bar high for others, not only in our successful business subjects but for all subjects.
“Special thanks to our business department led by Ms. Dorothy Chambers and ably supported by Ms. Nadine O’Connor and Mr. Aston Graham who have done the most work with these students.
“It is not enough to be the best at JGHS, or in Cayman, we want our students to compete globally and this is just the start.”
