The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) released regional exam results on Thursday, noting low numbers of subject entries and high rates of absenteeism in the Spring 2020 tests.
The tests and results were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and St. Vincent volcano eruption.
The Jamaica Gleaner broke down subject performance on the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exam as follows:
- English A – 74% pass (grades one to three)
- Mathematics – 41%
- English B – 61%
- Integrated Science – 66%
- Biology – 89%
- Chemistry – 63%
- Physics – 66%
Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM) – 87% - Human and Social Biology – 68%
- Principles of Business – 79%
- Information Technology – 89%
- Social Studies – 54%
- Office Administration – 79%
The absentee rate for CSEC exams was 8.3% and for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations was 11.23%.
The CXC regional results were announced in Guyana at an event that was streamed online.
Individual CXC exam results are due to be released Friday.
