This issue of the Weekly Current is more abbreviated than usual, as our main project this week was putting together a monthly story package set to be published in the Cayman Compass on Friday, 22 July.
We can’t spill all of the beans, but we can give a bit of a preview:
It’s been a year since the PACT government released its Strategic Policy Statement — its 3-year vision for 2022, 2023 and 2024. As the number one issue identified by the PACT, education featured prominently in the SPS.
For our collaboration with the Compass, we examined the 33 education-related initiatives contained in the July 2021 SPS and received a status report from the Ministry of Education indicating which are now ‘Complete‘, ‘In Progress‘ or still in the ‘Planning Stages‘. (Sneak Peek: 4 of the 33 were ‘Complete’.)
We also got comments from the leaders of the Progressives Opposition, who, in a nutshell, think the PACT should have been able to accomplish more during the new government’s first year in office.
(To find out more … Stay Tuned ... and pick up a copy of the Compass newspaper this coming Friday.)
***Programming Note: It’s Summer Vacation, including for the Current. All our bags are packed, we’re ready to go, and we’re leaving on a (Cayman Airways) jet plane. We’ll be back in a couple of weeks. Expect the next issue of the Weekly Current to hit your inboxes sometime around 31 July. In the meantime, check www.CaymanCurrent.org for the occasional education news update, as need be.***
